Grilled Cheese

Published: February 4, 2018

Today I feel a wee bit peckish
So the fridge opens with a swish
I look inside—cheese and butter
“Bah, I’m lazy,” I quickly mutter.

I lay them out on the kitchen’s table
Take out a pan, smear it with butter
Grab some bread, throw it with a fumble
And the smell makes my heart flutter.

I place the cheese with exceeding care
Then let it melt and my soul mend
Add more bread, so it won’t lay bare
I flip it over and watch it end.

Oh my goodness, such great befuddle!
My taste buds are in endless marvel!
“Is this true love?” I chew and wonder
For only this will ever sate my hunger.
